Tattoo is finito!

Well... It's done. I had my tattoo done yesterday. The process took about 4 hours. ...4 relatively painful hours, I might add. But, I love the result. I was told that I did quite well - no crying or even eyes watering. I think I surprised even myself with that. But, for me, it just wasn't that type of pain. It was different than anything in my memory. I can't compare it. Don't ever let anyone say that it ISN'T painful - it IS.

One of the issues I'm dealing with afterward is the fact that, after sitting backwards in a chair with nowhere to rest my feet for 4 hours, my spine is out of alignment; making my right foot all pins and needles. It's extremely annoying. On top of that, it's been very difficult today dealing with an oozing tattoo all day. I have NO idea how tomorrow is going to go at work. What seems to work best is having the tattoo exposed to the air. When it's not, it seems to ooze more. Plus, it's extremely tender to the touch. So, whatever clothing I wear has to either sit below it or above it enough that it doesn't irritate it. Even with things sitting higher - above it - it seems to keep too much moisture in, making it ooze more. ugh. This part is frustrating. I simply cannot WAIT until the entire thing is healed. :~/

Here's a hint: Click on this post title for a slideshow of the entire process from beginning to end.

UPDATE: Ramapo Reformed Church

Due to the inability to be present at the Ramapo Reformed Church weekly between now and the end of June, we're postponing dancing there until the Fall of 2007. There are 3 weeks within an 8-week period when we will not be able to use the room there. So, at this point in time, it doesn't make sense to confuse people as to when we'll be there and when we won't.

Alan and I sincerely apologize to those who had anticipated the use of such a great room with a nice, wood dance floor. Hopefully, if things work out, we'll be back there in the Fall on a weekly basis. Whether or not that will happen on Sunday evenings remains to be seen. But, for the moment, just know that they're on the back burner for the summer.

Thank you to everyone who attended. Hang in there! We'll get something going soon! :) Thanks for your support!

TGIF!

I need a weekend. LOL! My life is just crazy these days, I guess. Last night, Donnie took me to Screamin' Ink for a consult about getting my long-awaited tattoo. We talked with Billy, the owner. Nice guy. Extremely nice place - the ultimate in clean, let me tell 'ya! The place is in the style of a 50's diner. Pretty cool! ...Anywho... I gave him my "sample" tat and they're going to work up a custom version that'll "fit" me (the one I had was only 5" across - they'll fit it to ME). I can tell you right now, Billy is a good businessman who cares about his clientele and their wishes as well as their health. I'm telling you, the place is SPOTLESS. Every artist is Red Cross Certified and the shop is approved by O.S.H.A.. So, I know I'm going to a reputable shop and not some crazy, fly-by-night guy who just decided one day to pick up a gun and needles and call himself an artist. That's a huge relief to someone like me who has never been tattooed before. And I'm no dummy. I didn't just pick Billy's place out of the phone book. I did my homework. I know his rep - and it's impeccable. I've seen his work - and it's exceptional. What more can I ask for? ;)

So, my appointment is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. I'm psyched. And I'm not nervous at all. (Who'd have thunk it - me, CHOOSING to get a tat?? LOL!... In reality, I've always kind of wanted one. But, (1) I wasn't ready and (2) I could never really decide on anything that I REALLY wanted until now. Here's what I'm getting (or a close replica of):

Now, I need to work on Donnie. He has always wanted one, too. But, he's not sure WHERE to put it (OH. Mine is going on my lower back). And he wasn't sure what he wanted it to be. I drew him up something the other day and he seemed to really like it. So, who knows? Maybe he'll have that done sometime in the near future.

...What is this saying to our kids, anyway? I don't think it's a bad thing. But, if they ever decide to go for one, I'd at least like for them to invest some time in checking out the different shops around and making an educated decision.

Mt. Kisco American Legion & Ramapo Reformed Church

Hey, everyone!! Happy Saturday to you! I hope you have big plans for your weekend dancing pleasure. ;) Last night I taught in Mount Kisco, NY at the American Legion Hall. It was an adventure finding the place, as I took all the wrong turns to get there. LOL! But, I DID arrive and in plenty of time to enjoy the wonderful crowd there. I was happy to see line dance friends from 10.. maybe 15 years ago as well as new friends I've met since my return to the line dance community. But, aside from the fact that I knew many of the people in attendance, this was one of the friendliest, most FUN groups of people I've had the pleasure of teaching in a LOOOOONG time! Everyone danced. Everyone, obviously, had a good time. I think this is a reflection on Sue Gordon to a certain degree. She has a terrific group of people there and it was my pleasure to have the opportunity to spend some time with them. I'd like to go back and visit again when I get the chance! I recommend the same for any of you who are looking for a fun night with a crowd of happy, energetic people to dance with. The floor is a nice sized, all-hardwood dance floor. I think the ONLY drawback was that the floor is slippery - the wood is so smooth it was difficult for me to do the Fallsview Rock without falling on my @$$. LOL! Regardless of that, it was a great night and I appreciate the opportunity I had to be there. I hope Sue recovers from her surgery quickly and completely and is able to return to her class. They obviously love having her there.

Tomorrow (SUN 5/6), is the opening night of line dancing at the Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah, NJ. I'll be teaching there weekly with Alan Kohn DJ'ing. The room, like the Mt. Kisco American Legion, boasts an all-hardwood floor. And I'm hoping the low-key atmosphere will attract some newbies to the line dance scene as well as some old friends I've known over the years. Over the course of the next few weeks, we may play with the floor plan to see what works best with the table set-ups. If you attend and have ideas for improvement, please, feel free to share them with me! The cost of the evening will be $10 per person and includes snacks, soft drinks, and water. There is no alcohol allowed on church property, so I thank you for respecting that rule. I will also be implementing an instruction request list at the church. After talking with many dancers who consider themselves to be newcomers, I've found that many of them are interested in learning dances that are already existing on the dance floors of the area and don't necessarily feel the need to learn "new" dances all the time. Their wants are real and make sense. After all, who wants to pay $10 to get into a dance and then only get to dance two or three times all night long? Having an instruction request list might alleviate that problem. I'll check out the list and teach those dances that have already been taught along with some good new dances that may pop up along the way.

HERE is an alternate map to the church.

Hope to see you there!!

Happy Thursday, Folks!

I'm glad it's Thursday. I need the weekend to unwind from my whirlwind trip to Indy last weekend. LOL! However, that being said, I also have a lot going on this weekend. Starting with tonight. Thursday is Tappan Pub night, so I HAVE to go there because it has become somewhat of my line dance home since I returned to the scene. So, I'll be there tonight. Friday, May 4th, I'll be in Mt. Kisco, NY teaching. Saturday night I was supposed to go to that awesome Tallman Fire Department Dance. But, my babysitter bailed on me this morning, so I'm stuck home on Saturday night. And then on Sunday, my new classes start up in Mahwah, NJ at the Ramapo Reformed Church. For the first time in NINE years, I have my own class again. (YAY!) I'm looking forward to that. The entire room is hardwood floor and it isn't a small room AT ALL. It's actually quite a large room. The dance area should be bigger than the Tappan Pub, easily. But, it's going to take some finagling of tables before I'm happy with it, I'm sure. ;) I hope to see LOTS of people there. It's a $10 cover which includes 2 lessons, snacks, and soda/water. So, it's a good deal.

So, maybe I'll see some of you tonight at the Pub. Or maybe tomorrow in Mt. Kisco. And if not, then please join me on Sunday in Mahwah!

"Moms Gone Wild"

It was June 2004. The weather in NJ was gorgeous. I had just quit a job that required a horrible NJ commute and started working with my husband and Father-in-law as a bookkeeper for his auto parts store. I had recently lost a pregnancy I believed to be caused by the stress of that awful commute I endured twice a day. Things were looking up. I was happy again. My 4 year old son was doing great in "school" (his daycare center).

A couple weeks later, in the beginning of July, I found out I was pregnant again. I had a good feeling this time, with my work situation changed and my demeanor greatly improved. I decided to do something that I had never really done before. I joined a pregnancy message board. This particular message board consisted of a number of different forums referenced by birth month - in my case, expected birth month. I joined the March 2005 group since I expected my due date would be in mid-March of the following year. It was an interesting journey, learning the ins and outs of "siggys", "avatars", and the ups and downs of other hormonal women's comments to each other and sometimes AT each other. This board was okay, I thought. But, I felt I needed to steer clear of some of the members - they seemed pretty volatile at times.

Somewhere along the way, someone came on and posted about a different board that was more secure - where outsiders were unable to read the posts made by members. I thought that sounded like a better option than dealing with some of the crazies I encountered on that first board. So, off I went - to this new, more secure environment. It was similar to the first, as it had separate forums for each birth month. So, again, I became a member and joined the ladies on the March 2005 forum.

It was different, all right. MUCH different. This bunch of ladies was much more mature and respectful of each other - a whole different world from the pettiness I had encountered on the first board.

We posted about every happy, sad, and gross little facts of being pregnant. Some of us were pregnant for the first time. And yet others were already Moms of older children. Some of us had our kids close together. Some of us spaced them out. Some were planned. Some were "bonus babies". Some were working Moms. Others were SAHM's (Stay At Home Moms). We came from all over the United States - from Massachusetts to California with different income levels and childhood experiences and personalities. As time went on, our lives became intertwined. We shared things about each other that close relatives and friends didn't even know. We dealt with losing that board as a server went kaput, finding each other again, and moving to a new board (set up by the same people who created that 2nd board). Eventually, with time and more issues with security and/or personalities, we created our own private, secure board and have been together now for nearly three years. We suffered our own loss of one board and moved on to another location. We've added a select few women along the way and lost a few more here and there. We all suffer those losses and miss those ladies as if they were family.

We have always said, "wouldn't it be great to all meet one day?" And we toyed with locations and dates from time to time. But, it was one member in January of this year who finally said, "Come on, Ladies - we're DOING this! I want an all-girls weekend!" And so the planning began. We nailed down a date. We nailed down a location that allowed the highest number of people to drive rather than fly - Indianapolis it was. We planned for a weekend in April. One member had experience with booking rooms in Indy through Priceline.com and had good luck with that. So, a number of us chose that route, while others chose to book the traditional way. It seemed as if it would be FOREVER before that weekend would arrive.

We just returned yesterday from that weekend. And meeting these ladies was one of the high points of my life. We knew each other by sight as we've shared innumerable photos of ourselves, our kids, our husbands and significant others, as well as extended family members. We've celebrated happy events and supported each other through lows in life. So, meeting this very diverse group of supportive and amazing women was something to celebrate, in itself. We lit up Indianapolis for a few days and left our own mark there, I'm sure of it. We partied and talked and danced and laughed more than I can remember in recent memory. Even if nobody remembers us - I am quite sure that those who were able to attend will always remember it as an amazing and wonderful trip. I am lucky to have such amazing friends. And, somehow I knew this to be the case even before I met them in person. Outsiders who have an understandably cynical view of meeting people on the internet were skeptical about all this - and maybe rightfully so. Yet, knowing these women as I have for three years, there was nothing but excitement and joy. The internet isn't always as bad as the press it gets. ;)

Happy Thirsty Thursday, Folks!

Hey, everyone! I'm going NUTS today trying to tie up loose ends in preparation of my trip to Indy tomorrow. In the meantime, I wanted to share something with you. Those of you who know me, personally, probably know that Terri Clark and Phil Vassar are probably my two favorite country artists, by far. And Terri has a new video out for her new single, Dirty Girl. You can see her video on her website, TerriClark.com. And you can also purchase Dirty Girl on iTunes, as well. You know I already downloaded it, right? LOL! Of COURSE I did! Anywho... it's a great song (as biased as I am, I'm going to add that ALL Terri's songs are awesome). And I'm also anxiously awaiting Phil Vassar's new CD which he's been working on for quite a while now. He and Terri are both amazing and talented artists. But, again, that's biased opinion.

So... enjoy Terri's video! :) And I hope everyone has an awesome weekend! Those of you attending Tim Gillis' weekend, make sure you take Forty Arroyo's Triple Digit dance lesson. She's been gracious enough to teach it and I'd love to see more of you on the floor doing it. Not only because it's my own dance, but because it IS a fun dance to do. I promise - it's fun. And, yes, it has ONE tag in the entire thing. But, it's only 2 counts and NO extra steps. So, YOU CAN DO IT! Make me proud!! Have an AWESOME weekend! And I'll be back to my posts on Monday.

Happy Hump Day!

So... what's happenin' out there today?! Everyone gearing up for the weekend by now? I know I am! LOL! But, I'll be in Indianapolis suckin' down margaritas with the girls. ;) I'm very excited! I've waited a long time to meet these ladies and I can't believe it's finally happening! WOO-HOO!!! We're going to have a BLAST!

Hey, if I don't show up at work on Monday, Alan Kohn will have to hop a plane to Indy to find me. *hee-hee*

There's plenty of dancing going on around here to keep everyone busy, though! So, do a little dance for me, will 'ya? My time on the dance floor will be limited, I'm sure, as I'm the only dancer in the bunch. ...That's not to say I won't attempt teaching them a dance or two. But, since the 8 Seconds Saloon requires a cab ride from our downtown hotel, the chance of 15 of us going there for an entire evening seems pretty slim to me. :-/ But, I'm going to try my best to get to the biggest country nightclub in Indy. And I'll let you know how it is when I get back!

Meet The Robinsons

<--- A dancing dinosaur. Well, he's SUPPOSED to be dancing. I have no idea why the animation doesn't work here. Either way... Where else can you find a dancing dinosaur, but on MY BLOG??? NOWHERE! That's where! LMAO! Happy Tuesday to everyone! I hope you're enjoying the B-E-A-yooootiful weather we're having here in the northeastern part of the US. Some of my pals in the midwest are NOT having as much luck in the weather department. I had the opportunity to see the movie Meet The Robinsons on Saturday. As is the case with most Disney movies, I LMAO nearly the entire time. My 6-yr old son said it got "slow in the middle a little bit." But, I disagreed. I thought the whole thing was funny. :) I don't care WHAT age you are, you're never too old for a good, animated Disney movie. LOL!

Still crazy after all these years...

Yep. That's me. LOL! After the All American Dance Weekend, I sent out an email to a few of the instructors whose classes I attended there. I just wanted to say thank you for dealing with crazy ol' me. ...Anywho... Christopher Petre wrote me back and said this:
"Hey Janet! It was fun dancing with you this weekend. You were so funny! So should I ask how is it up there on Cloud 9? ;) There's nothing like a good endorphin high, is there!..."
I had to laugh. I hadn't realized prior to him saying so that my euphoria was so blatantly obvious! LMAO! I suppose I should be blushing, but somehow that's just not my way.

I think I've missed that euphoric state more than I realized. And I'm ecstatic that I have the opportunity to be back on the floor. After having 2 kids, my brain certainly isn't what it used to be. But, I'm gettin' there. I've been working on Christopher's "Butter Beans" among others. And, hopefully, I'll get the chance to pass these great dances around to some new people once my new classes start up in May.

Christopher, thanks for the laughs - both on the floor and upon receipt of your email. You're an excellent instructor and I'm honored to have had the opportunity to be a student in your class.

Busy, busy, busy...

Things are going to be crazy this week as well as the week following my return from Indianapolis. Just getting ready to leave will be hectic for me, I'm sure; trying to remember everything I need, getting to the airport on time, etc.. But, I'm feeling good about my progress thus far. I've got all my travel-size toiletries ready and a PILE of potential clothes to pack. Depending on the weather, some will stay and some will go with me. I'm excited to stop by the 8 Seconds Saloon at some point and sneak a little dancin' in with the girls. ;)

I'll be returning late Sunday night (the 29th). And the following week is going to be nuts with dancing. I'll want to go to the Tappan Pub on Thursday (5/3) after missing it this week (I have to work late to make up for not being there Friday). And then I'm teaching on Friday night (5/4) in Mt. Kisco, NY. On Saturday night (5/5) is the Tallman Fire Department's Annual Dance, hosted by none other than long-time pal and supporter of mine, John Hock. Sunday night (5/6) is the opening night of line dancing at the Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah, NJ. This will be the first weekend I've spent SO much time teaching. ...My boys are going to be missing me by Sunday night! LOL! And, by then, I ought to be back in the swing of dancing again, wouldn't 'ya say?

I'm looking forward to finally meeting these ladies in person! :)

Correction for FRIDAY @ Rangoli's!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to Rangoli's tonight after all. Too many variables going on at my house - my 2 babysitters are unable to take the boys for the night. And tomorrow is opening day at the races, meaning it's crunch time for Donnie and my FIL to get their cars done and race-ready. Time constraints what they are at my house, it just ain't gonna happen this time. I wish I could say that I'd be there because I would've loved to go and dance with Pam and her class. But, apparently, this just wasn't my night.

I apologize to both Sue Gordon and Alan Kohn.

Oy. So much for my Friday night!

TGIF!

Well, the news is out - There is a distinct possibility that, in the near future, the Tappan Pub will be transformed from a tired, old college hang-out to a hoppin' country nightclub. And the man at the helm is curious to know how many of you would be likely to go there twice a week or more. So, please feel free to comment and let us know what your thoughts are!

I was told last night by MaryAnn Portoro that Forty Arroyo will be teaching Triple-Digit Dancin' at the Tim Gillis Weekend next weekend. I want to send out a quick thank-you to Forty for keeping it alive! (Or would that be reviving it?... Not sure. LOL!)

Don't forget - tonight Alan and I will be at Rangoli's in New Rochelle, NY. I hear it rumored that Pam Stonehouse and her class will be there. I look forward to seeing Pam again, as I had a blast dancing with her last weekend at the All American Dance Weekend*.

*Also... There's another All American Dance Weekend coming up in July. Make sure you make plans to be there, as instructors from all over the country will be there teaching the hottest dances out there. ...I can't WAIT!!! - click on the link above for more info. ;)

FRIDAY DANCE!

This Friday, April 20, 2007 I will be helping out Sue Gordon in New Rochelle at Rangoli. Alan Kohn will be the DJ and I will be teaching a dance - possibly the Nevele Stomp (ch. Liz Rosenblatt) or my own Cowboy Stomp.

If you have questions, please feel free to post a comment here or email me HERE

Potential BIG news!

Okay, well, I can't really TELL you the news quite yet (doesn't THAT just suck??). But if it pans out, it's going to be HUGE for my immediate area. I'm just busting at the seams with excitement!

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to cuttin' a rug at the Tappan Pub tonight. Liz Rosenblatt will be back teaching 2 dances - looking forward to seeing what she's teaching. I believe it's rumored that she'll be teaching the famous Nevele Stomp (choreographed by her and the INfamous, Sarah - LOL!). And according to my sources, she'll teach another dance from the All American Dance Weekend. ...Hopefully, one of the ones I need to work on. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket ...So, if y'all are free, then make sure you make it over to the Tappan Pub tonight! See 'ya there! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was raised on bad TV

...Well, I wasn't REALLY raised on bad TV. But, I DID watch a LOT of TV as a kid. And since I lived alone in apartments for about 12 years, I got used to having the TV on ALL the time. I think I'm addicted to it. LOL! j/k But, I do love to watch certain shows when I'm not teaching. My current favorite is Bones. I'm also a fan of House and normally of American Idol (aside from this year's ridiculousness). I'm also somewhat of a weather buff and I love Today In New York in the early morning. Problem is, I usually miss that because I'm working out and showering. There was a time when I didn't miss any of it. ...I never thought I'd ever be a fan of any news show!

While I work out, I read. ...And I read. And I read. And I read some more. I'm a huge fan of Nora Roberts' writing under the name J.D. Robb. No. Actually, I like ALL of her books. And since I've read every single book she ever wrote under the J.D. Robb name, I'm working my way through her "Nora" books.

Nicholas Sparks is another favorite author of mine. I've read nearly all of his books, as well. So, I guess even though I always have watched a LOT of TV, it hasn't affected my love of books. ...Who says TV is bad for you, anyway? *wink*

Ramapo Reformed Church is a GO!

Beginning May 6th, line dance classes will be held at the Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah, NJ on Sunday nights from 7-10pm. More information to come!

Ramapo Reformed Church - Map it!
100 Island Road
Mahwah, NJ 07430

Hump Day

Yep... It's Wednesday. Thursday I'll be dancing at the Tappan Pub.

I have a lot of dances to try to remember from the All American Dance Weekend - I have to do those instructors proud! They worked hard to help me remember (because I have a mind like a sieve these days..). LMAO! Wish me luck!

American Idol ~ Country week

Somehow "Country Week" on American Idol always ends up annoying me. Usually, it stems from Simon and his snide comments about country music, in general. But, this year he bit his tongue on ridiculing country music - maybe due to the HUGE success of former Idol winner, Carrie Underwood - not to mention AI undergrads such as Kellie Pickler, Josh Gracin, and Bucky Covington. Granted the latter haven't had nearly the success that Carrie has, but still... And Carrie, alone, has proven that country fans spend equally as much, if not more on their music - making Simon an even RICHER man. So, what's not to like?

I'll tell you what's not to like - Sanjaya destroying Bonnie Raitt's "Something To Talk About." UGH. I sincerely wish the people voting for him would just DROP IT. I can't STAND hearing that idiot! But, it isn't just HIM. IMHO, the only 2 that sounded professionally good were Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle. The rest should have just sat this week out. ;)

I'm back!

Since I've been out of the line dance community for the past 9 years, I guess you could say I've fallen behind in the world of websites for instructors as well as the dances, themselves. So, rather than take a huge plunge into something that I don't yet know enough about and get my own URL, I've opted for my own blog. So, here I am.

What I'd like to do here is keep my friends abreast of what's happening in my little corner of the world of line dance. Let everyone know where and when my classes are being held. And maybe post some popular dances that are circulating. I hope that you come back to visit regularly or subscribe to my blog and return each time I post again. I welcome your comments and wish you happiness on the dance floor - wherever that floor may be.

Thanks for checking in!

New Dance location coming up!

This past weekend, I took a trip up to the Nevele Grande Hotel and Country Club in Ellenville, NY to attend the All American Dance Weekend. I had a blast with all the instructors as well as their students. I learned quite a few new dances and danced some oldies that I haven't done in 10 years. I think I danced more in 24 hours than I have in 9 years! It really was great fun and a pleasure for me to meet some instructors and DJ's I haven't seen in many years as well as meet new ones who weren't around when I began my hiatus nine years ago.

I will say one thing - having children definitely steals your brain cells. Back 10 years ago, I'd have learned every dance without missing a beat. But, this time, OMG... I should've brought my 6 year old. He would have learned the dances easier than I did! I guess I didn't do all that badly, though. After all, I DID dance from about 10:00 am until 1:00 am the following morning - with only breaks for lunch, dinner, and about a 10 minute soak in the tub to ease the pain in my aching feet/legs. OWIEE! LOL!

Anywho... I'm looking forward to getting some classes going. And I am in the process of solidifying one in Mahwah at the Ramapo Reformed Church on Sunday evenings beginning in May. It will be a 2 month trial and will run weekly with Alan Kohn spinning the tunes and me teaching. The Ramapo Reformed Church is located at 100 Island Road, Mahwah, NJ 07430. And questions can be fielded by emailing or calling Alan or messaging me here.
